Velvetone is a browser extension that restyles the YouTube Music website (music.youtube.com) and adds features to it. It has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no servers that receive your data. This page explains what the extension stores and which requests it makes.
What Velvetone stores
Your Velvetone settings: playlist folders, pins, playlist icons (including images you upload), accent color, background,
equalizer, crossfade and volume normalization preferences. They are kept by your browser in the extension's storage
(chrome.storage): on your device, and, for some settings, in your browser's sync storage so they follow you
to your other computers. Velvetone's developer cannot see them.
Requests the extension makes
- YouTube Music itself. On music.youtube.com, Velvetone uses YouTube Music's own web interface, in your existing session, to read what the page already shows you: your library's playlists and their covers, a song's lyrics, and a playlist's full track list (for true shuffle). This stays between your browser and YouTube, as the page's own requests do.
- LRCLIB (lrclib.net). When YouTube Music has no time-synced lyrics for a song, Velvetone asks LRCLIB, an open lyrics database, for them, sending the song's title and artist. Nothing else is sent: no account, identifier or listening history. LRCLIB's own terms apply to that request.
- Velvetone's configuration file. Every 15 minutes the extension downloads a small, signed file of visual fixes (styles and page selectors, never code). The request carries no personal data. As with any web request, the host sees your IP address; Velvetone does not log or keep it.
What Velvetone doesn't do
It doesn't collect, sell or share personal data, doesn't track what you listen to, doesn't use cookies of its own, and doesn't use your data for advertising, credit or any purpose other than the features above.
Backups
Velvetone's "Backup & restore" page writes your settings to a file you download and keep. That file never leaves your computer unless you move it.
Deleting your data
Removing the extension removes everything it stored in your browser.
